January Recap.

The first of January is always scary because you never fully realise just how quickly time flies until it’s passed, this becomes more real when you are on the cusp of being categorised as “mid 20s”. The day that I am no longer in the 18-22 box when filling out a survey will be one for the books: You will not hear from me for a while.

Anyway, the morning of the new year has uncovered yearly traditions: waking up slightly hungover, promising this will not happen next year, discussing the empty resolutions you’ll stick to, and finally playing with the idea of Dry January, only to sit yourself down in a bar the next week. To be honest, it’s a comfy routine, and I like my creature comforts.

In terms of college, I ended up getting a really fun internship! As of March, I’ll be helping with international advertising and marketing at ELLE Fashion in Paris. Still doesn’t feel really when I say it, I think it’s because we Irish as a nation cannot understand when something good happens to us (god forbid we take a compliment, never mind something bigger). It is crazy to think about, tho. I finally get to move back to Paris at long, long last. I can’t get too ahead of myself yet, as for some reason I still have exams and assignments, talk about rude, am I right?

Looking back at this month, I’m a believer that January never really exists for anyone. It feels like a buffer for February (my sister has her birthday in January, sorry Molly, but you get it).

I think the 3 things I would have said to myself at the start of this month are:

  1. You’re about to get really good news, be happy about it! We earned it, buddy :)

  2. Read what the lecturers told you to read; there is nothing worse than being called on and not having prepared.

  3. Put that glass of water beside your bed when you wake up on January 1st
